Mickey Rourke is the epitome of cool

Last week I trekked to the local independent movie theater to see The Wrestler which everyone has been obsessing over. To give a little free, local publicity and for your information, I travel to Dubuque, IA which is an inhospitable wasteland for anything involving the right side of the brain. However, there is a small building with light shining down on it like the whole manger scene of Christmas. That building is MindFrameTheaters where I can go enjoy a quality movie above the mainstream hullabaloo and have a beer or some wine to accompany it.

Mickey Rourke embodies the character, Randy "The Ram" Robinson in this heart-bursting story of a washed up professional underground wrestler who battles with age, a love for his fans, a stripper’s affection, and the renewing of a lost relationship with his might-be lesbian daughter. If you think that sentence might be too long, you might be right and I don’t care.

This film provides touching insight into the pro wrestling culture. The styles, names, and characters each wrestler embodies remind me of the whole superhero display images seen throughout history in pop art and fantastic neon costumes representing the identity of the hero. A wrestler depicts a specific identity or character and fans begin to mythologize it.

So bleach those long locks of love and get ready for the Dudley Death Drop with a Superfly Splash!

Neons are my favorite…
