Handsome Furs - The Concert

Last night I had the privilege to melt my face at a Handsome Furs concert in Ames, IA. Well above all the hype and the buzz of their new album, Face Control, I will be real honest with you. They rocked my existence head to toe. My face had melted so much by the end of the concert that it had created a puddle of face around my feet that I ended up slipping on and gave myself a concussion.

The Montreal-based husband-and-wife duo, Dan Boekner and Alexei Perry, have been on their North American tour recently promoting their newest album, Face Control. The album name was supposedly drawn from a club in Moscow that they had come across during their Eastern European tour. To reserve a table at the club would require a large sum of money and even then they would not promise you a table. The club had the right to turn people away based on mere appearance. This was labeled as “face control” thus coining the band’s new album title. The band name was pulled from a short story that Alexei was writing at the time of the bands conception.

The night was filled with beautiful music and love was in the air. Sleeveless foreign t-shirts and zebra-striped leggings accompanied funky guitar strums and atmospheric, electro-synth drum machines. Something just doesn’t feel right. Oh it’s me on the ground next to my face…
